Vigil of Pentecost 2006
edit_button

Alleluia!

Tonight is the Vigil for Pentecost and tomorrow we will celebrate the Descent of the Holy Spirit and foundation of the Church. Pentecost also marks "the completion of the work of redemption, the fullness of grace for the Church and its children, and the gift of faith for all nations." [1] This is one of the most important celebrations in the Church's liturgical year. I've prepared for this day through the Original Novena as we as through the Holy Spirit Gift/Fruit Devotion. And, tomorrow I not only will go to Mass but especially pray that the Spirit will fill me and guard me. As I discern my vocation and prepare to serve as a priest, I need the gifts of the Holy Spirit more than anything.

The Holy Father took part in a Vespers service tonight in St. Peter's Square. Many ecclesial movements were part of the prayer service tonight. Zenit has more information on the movements in attendance. At the end of the prayer service, the Regina Coeli was prayed, and the people broke out into shouts of joy to the Holy Father.

MB,
I know that Christmas and Easter are of such vital importance but I have a special place in my heart for Pentecost. When I returned to our Lord's teachings, one of the first things that happened to me was a complete in-filling of the Spirit, aka "Baptism of the Holy Spirit." It was an experience I shall never forget. It provided me a personal relationship with Jesus that I had never dreamed possible.
