Homosexual marriage, in the perspective of the Church is wrong and because it is more of a frivolousness that serves no purpose (i. e. no children can be conceived in such a union) I will agree with you and say it, in some respects, is wrong.

But…

I won't say that Spain is turning against God, per se. Homosexual marriage, while sinful, is largely a secular issue and governments, as they should, have the right to control secular affairs. If the government makes laws based solely on the religious views of the majority, the minority is oppressed.

Much of the West condemns certain Muslim nations for instituting Sharia Law as the law of the land, but as Muslim nations it is their right; however, Spain is not a Catholic nation, but rather a secular nation with a Catholic majority (according to Wikipedia, which might be wrong, Spain is 76% Catholic, not 94%) and therefore needs more than religious views to make laws, and, except from a spiritual standpoint, such civil unions physically hurt no one, including the homosexuals, so therefore the government has no right to restrict any union of two consenting citizens.

The best Catholics can do is not marry someone of the same-sex. From the perspective of the Church the 14% (or 6%) of the population that is not Catholic is living in sin for not being part of the Church. Yet, I’m sure you would even agree, that it would be appalling for Spain to outlaw all other religions.

If we think that Spain is turning against God because of a trivial matter like gay marriage, it is no wonder the Middle East thinks we, who do not abide by their practices or follow their laws, are godless...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-13804788.post-1152504383465280582006-07-09T23:06:00.000-05:002006-07-09T23:06:00.000-05:00Above I accidentally said that one does not have t...Above I accidentally said that one does not have to believe in the Church's stance on contraception.
