Favorite Saint

Since I'm going to start a weekly topic on a saint I wanted to ask a question:

Who is your favorite saint and why?

The Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God would be first. But how tough is this question, there are so many great saints to choose from?

St. Bernadette, my patron. St. Michael. St, Kolbe, St.Anthony, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Mary Magdalene....oh, I could just go on and on and on and on...but I won't :)

Enjoyed your blog!

God Bless.

A Secular Franciscan ayon kay ...

St. Francis of Assisi.

I was baptized Lee Francis Strong, so he's been a part of my life from almost the beginning.

As I grew up in the late 60s early 70s, there was the romantic hippy appeal (I actually saw Brother Sun, Sister Moon at the movies!). But as I read more about him, I came to love his passion for the Lord, his spirituality, his love of others and of nature. Chesterton's biography of him really moved me.

I even briefly considered a vocation to the priesthood as a Franciscan.

My oldest daughter is name Clare.

Two other saints who appeal to me are St. Thomas More - humanist, intellectual, who was willing to die for his beliefs; and St. Joseph (my confirmation name) - dedicated father. I could go on

I also admire some folks whom I consider saints, but who might not make it "officially," such as Dorothy Day and G.K. Chesterton.

My favorites are St. Anthony and St. Teresa of Jesus. She showed me that a person can have a comfortable relationship with Jesus and still show honor and devout worship. And as my son (who chose Anthony as his patron saint) said, "because he finds things."

My dear friend Anthony has been revealing his sense of humor to me lately, and I can't help thinking how fun it will be to meet him in heaven!

My patron saint is St. Lucy, and for medical reasons, I am very grateful I chose her when I did! I also call on Sts. Therese de Lisieux, Jude, Anthony of Padua, Dymphna, Michael the Archangel, Benedict, Basil the Great, Patrick, Aquinas, Blessed Teresa of Calcutta, and soon-to-be St. John Paul the Great.
