Catholics and Genetic Engineering

I would like to especially thank one reader of this blog, who sent me an email directing me to a great site on Catholics and bio-engineering called Mary meets Dolly. I have been giving speeches on embryonic stem cell research, so this help is a great help.

Remember, Catholics can not support this procedure because embryos die as a result!

No one has benefited from embryonic stem cells as opposed to a myriad of benefits to adult stem cells.

Obviously embryonic stem cell research is wrong, and adult stem cell research is fine (in general?).

But, do you know what the Church teaches in regards bioengineering using adult stem cells?

Anonymous, I did a short speech on stem cell research a few years ago. If you send me your email address, I can forward it to you.

In short, the Church is supportive of using adult stem cells.

I think stem cell research is not based on religion, but on when a human life begins. You do not need to be a Christian or indeed religious at all to beleive a life begins at conception, and you do not need to be an atheist to beleive life does not begin at conception. As human kind learns more, we discover even more we have to learn.

Considering that almost all American medical textbooks agree that life begins at conception, I feel as though allowing abortion and embryonic stem cell research is immoral, no matter what religion.

I am Catholic. Catholicism is the first and oldest Christian religion. This means that it has endured over time while there were people breaking off and creating modified religions. The doctrine, therefore, is original; I believe this is why Catholicism nowadays seems more strict than other religions-- we follow the doctrine straight.

As far as I know, the Church is supportive of adult stem cell research, which promises the benefits of stem cells without having to kill innocent human life.

The Church remains steadfast against killing human life in any means, as in abortion or engineering with human embryos.

Why is the person who said that "God isn't real" on a site about Catholicism?

Just give the whole "I'm an atheist and I'm right about everything" attitude a rest because people can believe what they want.

Religious people say "we believe"; it's called faith for a reason. Nobody knows if they're right or not, so stop making out you are because you don't have any more idea than me.
