Vatican: EM's Should not Purify the Sacred Vessels

I just saw an extraordinary minister purify the sacred vessels after Communion at Mass a few weeks ago. I didn't approve of it, so I'm really glad to hear this news from the Vatican.  Let's hope and work for an end in the Novus Ordo of these abominations

The Vatican has instructed the Catholic bishops of the US to discontinue the practice of allowing extraordinary Eucharistic ministers to assist with the purification of chalices after Communion

Bishop Trautman reminded his fellow bishops that the use of extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist is intended "exclusively for those instances where there are not enough ordinary ministers to distribute Holy Communion."

Amen.

Extraordinary Ministers are only there to supplement the clergy when they are needed, not to crowd around the altar wearing miniskirts.

Well, sadly my diocese is not going to implment it though. I know for fact because my diocesan liturgists told me this morning when I was on the phone for her for about an hour. Go to my site to see the USCCB new rules on distriubtion of communion called, "SEVEN QUESTIOSN ON THE DISTRIBUTION OF HOLY COMMUNION UNDER BOTH KINDS" That God may be glorified!

I believe the use of extraordinary ministers of the eucharist has only hastened the loss of reverence and awe in the true presence of our Lord during communion. Please bring back altar rails and say mass Ad Orientum so that we are all facing our Lord to remind us that its all about Him not us. I love America, but the American Catholic Church, or at least a great deal of the body of our church are so rebellious. I pray that we will be brought back to the truth. Purification of the vessels is a duty and function of the priest---never the laity. We will need to be patient---and always be reminded that we are in church to honor and serve, and that our lives are meaningless without the love of our Lord Jesus Christ---who gives everything we are and everything we do, meaning. God Bless all. susan.

hopefully, next, they'll get rid of the excessive use of emHC and bring some reverence back!

SWestberg, you mentioned rebellious, well the first problem I notice with many American Catholics is that they refer to themselves as the 'The American Roman Catholic Church' instead of 'The Roman Catholic Church in America'. Both imply different things and the former makes one yearn for independence and autonomy. Since we are a Universal Church, we should not go by the former title.

And on the topic of EM's, I saw one in my parish make the sign of the cross with the HOST over a child who came forward for the blessing!!
