Uganda's Abstinence Programs Work

From LifeSiteNews:

Janet Museveni, First Lady of Uganda, has continued her strong support for the country’s successful abstinence campaign against HIV/AIDS with a statement encouraging youth to live lives of “love, faith and purity,” New Vision reported December 2.

"I would not be caught advising you to take any shortcuts or compromise your lives by using any device invented by man, such as condoms, in order to facilitate any desire to go against God's clear plan for your life,” Mrs. Museveni told students at the Uganda Christian University, Mukono, for World AIDS Day.

“God's plan for your life is that you should honour your body because it is His temple."

Warning the young people that they should not be complacent as HIV infection rates rise, Mrs. Museveni asked them to encourage other students to abstain from premarital sex.

Ugandan President Museveni and his wife introduced a program encouraging sexual abstinence before marriage and fidelity afterwards, in an attempt to combat the scourge of HIV/AIDS.

The program has been harshly condemned by international organizations promoting condom use, but in fact Ugandan HIV transmission rates dropped by as much as 75% in some regions after the program was introduced, down to 5-7% from a high of 18%.

Uganda is a symbol. Condoms don't work. Abstinence remains the only effective way for countering the AIDS Crisis. Plus, artificial contraception and pre-marital sex are mortal sins anyway.

Please pray very hard for Canada's Parliament, especially tomorrow. The Memebers of Parliament will be voting on whether to re-open the issue of same-sex "marriage" (bill C-38).
Pray that memebers of certains parties will vote according to their consciences despite pressure to do otherwise.

Thanks.

Hello Moneybags, I am in the 8th grade and I'm writing an essay supporting Priestly Celibacy... I will be debating this with a girl who is writing against it. Any suggestions?

Thank you and God Bless.

The UN doesn't want to give Uganda too much headlines because it'll make them look bad with their failed condoms-campaign to battle AIDS.

Tito, you are absolutely right.

Anonymous, great job defending priestly celebacy. Celebacy is very important to continuing the work of the Church. After all, since the priest is to act in persona Christi in Confession and at the altar, he must be a man. Jesus was a man.

Celebacy is an important disciple. It is not a dogma. Since I'm really busy right now and have to go somewhere, I will just direct you to these links. I hope your essay works out tremendously!

I know a man who was an invited guest at the wedding of the Ugandan president's daughter (not sure if it was this president or one previous). My friend said that at the reception, the president spoke to the guests, saying he had just returned from a conference on AIDS in Africa where condoms were heavily promoted. The president told the wedding guests that the only possible way to prevent AIDS was through abstinence until marriage, "like my daughter and son-in-law have done." How amazing to see a leader take God's Word seriously!
