Ordination of 8 Men at Econe, Switzerland Seminary for the Society of St. Piux X (SSPX)

These ordinations occur after similar ordinations around the world including the ordination of several men in Winona, Minnesota (USA) and in Germany.

Also, in addition to these seven, a man was also ordained for the Capuchins, making the total eight.

Matthew:

Why do you give house room to SSPX anymore? A situation of necessity hardly exists, and both the local Ordinary and the Holy See forbad these latest ordinations...

(don't think me argumentative, by the way - just inquisitive!)

God bless.

Mark,

What could possibly be wrong with the ordination of young deacons to the priesthood?

The priesthood shortage is unbelievably horrific and the world can use as many "alter Christus", as possible.

I have not heard one word from the Bishop of Sion forbidding these ordinations, and why would he?
These young men were taught and formed the way priests have been formed for over a millenia.

Why do you or anyone second guess their formation and vocation?
God bless you.

Mark:

I see nothing wrong with the SSPX formation. Remember, the Mass of All Times may be more readily available now, but the mentality of the SSPX is still in sharp contrast to the majority of the modern Catholic Church. Teachings on ecumenism, religious liberty, etc. differ too widely, and I side with the SSPX in these matters.

Plus, I see no reason to turn my back on the SSPX after all that has come about of their - and Archbishop Lefebvre's - work (e.g. Summorum Pontificum, Ecclesia Dei, etc).

I think you both misunderstood my motives here. I am not trying to second-guess their formation or vocation. And, normally, I have little problem with SSPX. However, in this instance, both the local Ordinary and the Holy See expressly told SSPX not to carry out these ordinations. These Priests, whilst ordained validly, like all other SSPX clergy are suspended a divinis and unable to exercise Priestly ministry. I think it's a great shame, and I am very concerned about the element of disobedience.

Matt,
Who were the other two bishops with H.E. Bishop Fellay?

Matthew :

I believe those are Bishops Alfonso de Gallareta and Tissier de Mallerais.
