Does St. Jude Hospital Fund Stem Cell Research?

I recently wrote to St. Jude's Hospital to determine the answer to this important question for Catholics.  As to the answer, it is a positive one to hear.

Question: I received information in the mail to donate to St. Jude. I am interested but I need to know does St. Jude in any way support or fund Planned Parenthood, abortion, or human embryonic stem cell research? I can not and will not donate to anyone who does. Thank you.

Answer:

Dear Matthew,

Thank you for your interest in St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. St. Jude is one of the world’s premier centers for the research and treatment of childhood cancer and other deadly childhood diseases. All donor contributions are provided directly to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital to support St. Jude programs. We do not support or fund the programs that you mentioned in your email.

If you would like additional information on the lifesaving work of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, please visit our website at www.stjude.org. If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact our Donor Services department at 1-800-822-6344 Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 11:00 pm CT. Thank you again for contacting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Sincerely,

Sherry Howard

They're lying. There was a job posting earlier this year in Developmental Neurobiology looking for a candidate with embryonic stem cell experience for the study of retinoblastoma.

So? Stem cell research saves real lives.

Adult stem cell research saves lives. Embryonic stem cell research leads to death.

There are many researchers who believe that adult stem cells and iPS cells may provide a greater benefit for the development of therapies for debilitating human diseases than human embryonic stem cells.

"Good ends do not justify evil means," said Rev. Tadeusz Pacholczyk, Ph.D., who is the director of education at The National Catholic Bioethics Center. "Even if significant scientific breakthroughs occur using illicitly gained tissues from fetal corpses, this does not ethically sanitize the procedure of tissue procurement or justify any continuation of the practice."

Maybe they’re talking about umbilical cord after birth?

It's still killing an unborn child! Life begins at conception.
Planned parenthood will always hire lying and heartless doctors

I would like a definitive answer also. Just yes or no. I understand the need for research but not with elective abortions.

If St Judes support research based on babies' body parts then they support Planned Parenthood. It's a money making business!!
My other question is: If they are asking for donations for children that are already born, then what about giving a chance to those that are still in the womb?? Imagine the talent that we are deprived of by killing and dismembering children? How can St.judes justify protecting those that are born vs those who have not been given a chance to live. Life is life outside or inside the womb!

It's all about money. That is why you never get a bill in the mail when you bring a sick child in for treatment. Planned parenthood is one of the biggest donors. Pick your poison unwanted vs fighting to live. It's sad to digest but life's a bitch

Not if those cells come from an alive preborn child. As long as they take part in abortion I will never support St Jude.

I'll pick saving the unborn. Sorry about the sick kids but the unborn should not have to die for cancer kids to be cured. Find another way to do research.

One thing I can say is that st Jude's saves thousands of children's life's every year so when you donate to them you are saving lives of children and you shouldn't worry about what they're doing with the money you send you should worry about all the children that would die if it wasn't for st Jude's. So may God bless St Jude's hospital and everyone who works there. Just think it could be your child's life there saving... 🙏🙏🙏

Excellent suggestion! I was a fairly regular supporter of Saint Jude, but until I have proof that they don’t support abortion I’ll refrain

The American Life League states that there are doctors on St Jude staff involved in fetal cell experiments and St Jude will not reply to requests for info by Am Life League. Be wary. We have donated for decades but unfortunately now our charitable dollars will go elsewhere. Danny Thomas must be weeping

Same for me. I also regularly contributed to SJ, but stopped several years ago after learning of its connection to this evil practice. Saving lives is noble, but not at the expense of the lives of others. An estimated one million abortions occur in the US alone each year and Planned Parenthood is by far the largest perpetrator and seller of fetal material - to organizations, apparently including SJ.

The ends never justifies the means! Any organization or company that uses embryonic stem cells from aborted babies is committing an abomination in the eyes of the Holy and Just God of the Holy Bible! Pagan nations committed this sort of abomination in Bible days when they sacrificed their own newborn children to the false god Molech! The Creator God of the Holy Bible forbids this wicked practice! The modern form of this is abortion and the selling and buying of aborted babies body parts for any reason whatsoever! St. Jude's needs to Repent of this wicked abomination immediately!

As of November 2024, St. Jude is still involved in human embryonic stem cell experiments. They have a neurobiology lab which advertises their involvement in this grave crime against vulnerable babies, babies who were never given a chance to implant in their mother's womb. Search for St. Jude embryonic stem cells to find their blog. They don't bother to hide it any more.
