Yesterday, after waiting nearly ten weeks, I finally received my custom-made cassock. Today I was able to serve Mass at my parish with both cassock and surplice and am now only server at my parish to wear cassock and surplice. I am very excited and can not recommend The House of Hansen enough.
Also, I have not posted on this weblog lately. I have been writing lessons for a popular online Daily Catechism Program. I hope to post a little more on my blog before postings end on August 25, 2007.
To the kind readers that sent me donations via Paypal, please accept my sincere thanks! My prayers are with you. If anyone else would like to send me a donation (blogging does take considerable time), I would greatly appreciate it. A link to donate via Paypal is available in the sidebar.

I love cassocks! Our priest wears his all the time and we always get excited to see him wearing it. So many priests neglect to wear one. Quite sad, really.
So, congratulations!
Wonderful. I'm getting fitted for mine on Monday!
I'm getting fitted for mine on the 27th of July at Renzetti's in Philadelphia.
YAY! Good news.
I really miss wearing a cassock; hope you become very fond of yours! ;-)
Remember, what is in the inside is what really counts.
I loved wearing my cassock when I was a server.. it is a power symbol, just like a nun's habit it.
Congratulations!! Let me know when you need a biretta.
Congrats. My two cassocks (white and black) and surplice were tailored by the FMM sisters.
I think the cassock may make you appear holier than thou, and remember when your a priest cassocks are to be worn on parish grounds, when you leave the parish and go to the grocery store or go on vacation, then the clerical suit is the propper garb.
Your going to make a statement with the cassock that isn't gonna be positive, fyi.
Hi Matthew, I certainly understand your excitement about recieving your first cassock. My clasmates and I experienced much the same excitement when we recieved our first albs. We all recieved our albs at the same time one night before class. I will repeat the same prayer for you that our priest said for us that night. I that everytinme you vest for Mass that you feel that same excitement that you felt that first time. God bless you and keep up the great work. I look forward to praying with and for you as you continue your your journey to the priesthood in the coming years.
Deacon Mike
Who do you think you are writing lessons for a daily online catechism website? Do they know your a college seminarian who really has no formal training in theology beside reading books or copying and pasting books to put on your blog? If you were a major seminarian I would mind, but a college seminarian, come on!
I hope you do link to this "popular daily catechism website" so we can see what you've been working on, I would be rather interested.
Also, I apologize if I come off harsh with this comment, but those were my thoughts, I'd be more than interested to read what you wrote so I could judge if my opinion is correct.
"Your going to make a statement with the cassock that isn't gonna be positive, fyi."
And what kind of statement would that be? That I'm not a liberal/modernist? Yes, and I'm proud to make that statement.
Matthew,
I'm not sure that was the statement they meant. I know you're not a liberal; I'm glad of it. But I still share a concern there.
in the olden days, I imagine it wasn't safe to be overtly Catholic in the United States. Nowadays, the cassock would primarily confront people with a way of life; people don't like it, but they have to see it.
I'm a college seminarian in a way. I attend a Protestant liberal arts college, although I'm studying in a bible-theology pre-seminary major. I think it's great that you're doing some writing! I've been writing since high school, and applaud you for your work!
Also, congrats on the cassock! Wear it proud! I have yet to get one, but I'll be glad when I do! Even as a non-Catholic (I don't consider myself "Protestant") I recognize the importance of right tradition.
And as was said above, the cassock now can be used to confront people. That's what the church should do! We should love and care for those in need, but people often forget the other side of that. People should know what they believe and why...they should be challenged and well prepared to defend themselves. If they disagree with me, fine, but they better be able to defend their convictions!
what coulour cossocks do preast where?
