Since tomorrow is the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception and it is also Friday, the traditional Friday abstinence should not be observed tomorrow. There should never be abstinence on a solemnity. What? You didn't realize that abstaining from meat or doing another act of penance was still required? It is.

Canon 1251: "Abstinence from meat, or from some other food as determined by the episcopal conference, is to be observed on all Fridays, unless a solemnity should fall on a Friday."So, be sure to abstain from meat today if you can. Tomorrow is a celebration.
Canon 1253 provides an exception to the rule - and, perhaps, an explanation for the cultural shift: "The episcopal conference can determine more particular ways in which fasting and abstinence are to be observed. In place of abstinence or fasting it can substitute, in whole or in part, other forms of penance, especially works of charity and exercises of piety."
