The 34th Anniversary of Legalized Abortion

Today is a somber anniversary - a day that I encourage penance, abstience, and fasting. Today is the 34th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Abortion Case, which legalized abortion in the United States by overriding all state abortion laws. We must repent of these sins and do penance in reparation! And we must work for the end to abortion. Please see my post on Pro-life actions that can be done all throughout the year.

The March for Life is going on right now in Washington, D.C. and many colleges including St. John Vianney Seminary are there.

Today is also a day of abstience! Cardinal William Keeler responded, when asked if abstaining from meat was required: "It is not asked, but obliged by all the faithful under Church law. This time it cannot be substituted with acts of charity or service, while on Fridays it can. I hope the pastors informed their parishoners of this from the pulpit last Sunday!..."

Well I wish I had known that before I had a bacon omlet for breakfast and turkey just now for dinner.

In that case, I suggest you abstain tomorrow.

My friend called me at lunch when I had a turkey sandwich in my mouth! I wish he had called 10 minutes earlier! Anyway, I hope I find out BEFORE next time! I guess tomorrow I'll give up meat! Thanks for posting! God Bless!

Anyone who got up at 2:30 AM with 2 hours sleep, packed 3 sleepy girls into the car, drove 14 hours round trip to Washington, DC. spent hours in the raw cold at the March for Life, has done plenty of penance to make up for the chicken sandwich she ate at Family Resource Council!
I'm so sorry I didn't have a chance to meet you there. I didn't make it back there, I went to the 'Catholic Jamboree' in the basement of the Hyatt Capitol Hill.

How does one find out about things like this beforehand, if one's priest does not announce it or print it in the parish bulletin? I'd like to be better about following church teachings. Thanks.
