I just read about a Catholic parish in Norwalk that is returning to boys-only altar serving while creating a Handmaids of the Altar program for the girls. I think this is a fabulous idea. I have been hoping that more boys would actually serve at the altar wearing cassocks and surplices because altar serving is meant to help boys discern a priestly vocation.

At my parish in WI there are only male altar servers. They wear cassock looking things (I'm ever so technical). When the Archbishop was there a few years ago he remarked that they were better dressed than they were.
I think that's a fabulous idea and would help more younger and older boys realize that alter serving is for discerning a priestly vocation. But it is not excluding the girls from helping at the alter either, with the Handmaids of the Alter program. Great idea!
Ugh, I meant to say they were dressed better than he was.
Hello Moneybags. I really like your blog as well as your freewebs.com website. Would you be so kind as to explain the old and new testament as you did a lot of other stuff on your freewebs website? I know you're very busy, and right now that your great grandmother is very sick your probably won't be able to. I'm sorry to bother you with this request and you don't have to respond to it or do it.
God Bless
P.S. My prayers are with you.
Max,
I think that is an excellent idea to write an article on the New and one on the Old Testament. Also, I appreciate your support of my websites and your prayers too.
I will put those on my "To Do List". Right now I have no more room on the FreeWebs Site, so I may have to move some things around and combine pages to post more on it.
Thank you for the suggestion
IMHO, it would be fairer to have only male servers- and make the care of the altar linens the responsibility of said servers. That way, the boys would learn that if you get the 'glamorous ' duties you have to take the 'unglamorous ' ones too.
And what the heck does cooking have to do with the altar ?
